APHL Raises Bio/Chem Field Device Concerns

During a recent Water Security Partners meeting, the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) announced the availability of an interesting brochure that highlights some concerns about field devices used by first responders for biological and chemical detection and identification.  Apparently, many of the devices are not validated nor are they measured against specific performance standards for consistent results.  APHL has proposed a series of steps to address these concerns.  To learn more about this issue, please read the brochure on the APHL website at:  http://www.aphl.org/AboutAPHL/publications/Documents/PHPR_2010Nov_LRNFieldDevicesFactSheet.pdf
