EPA OIG Issues NSI Program Report

On June 2, 2016, EPA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued a new report on the Agency’s improvements as part of its National Security Information (NSI) Program.  This is the fourth OIG report since 2011 that has assessed the Agency’s Program.  As a result of earlier OIG recommendations, EPA has improved its controls over the NSI Program by including mandatory training, making nondisclosure agreements more readily available to employees with a security clearance, and standardizing performance requirements for employees with a security clearance.  Further, the Agency has agreed to continue to improve its NSI Program by completing information classification guides that can be used uniformly and consistently throughout the Agency and establishing controls to ensure that clearances are administratively withdrawn within 30 days of an employee leaving the EPA.
